I discovered the site of Malapa on the 1st of August 2008 on the Malapa
Nature Reserve.   Two weeks later, on the 15th of August on only the second
visit, my then nine year old son Matthew discovered, within minute of arriving,
the clavicle of what would turn out to be the skeleton of a child 1.9 million
years old.  On the 4th of September, I discovered a second skeleton, that of
an adult female.  Since that time, my team has made a number of remarkable
discoveries of hominins at the site, making it one of the richest in the world.
